Nellie Rose Trunk Show

As a special presentation during our Shades of Summer exhibit and beginning August 17, 2017 ArtWalk we will feature a Nellie Rose Trunk Show. Her research of indigo and other natural dyeing, wax-resist dyeing, stencil-resist dyeing and printing, rice paste-resist dyeing, thread-resist dyeing, silk screen printing, Computer-Aided- Design, kimono construction, weaving, and hand-spinning led her to develop the Nellie Rose Collection of silk clothing and accessories. They boast the Japanese aesthetic and culture including love of subtle color, intriguing texture, and organic movement.

The trunk show will run Thursday the 17th 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and 10:00 am to 5:30 pm Friday, August 18th. Her work focuses on hand-painted clothing and hand-dyed shibori scarves. Nellie Rose collections are one-of-a-kind, and handmade in small batches which continue the dedicated process of slow fiber. Nellie Rose Davis is a native West Virginian and daughter of textile artists specializing in shibori; a Japanese method of resist dye. She was a Fullbright Fellow from 2011 to 2012 during which she studied Japanese textiles and design at Osaka University of Arts in Osaka, Japan
