Susan Poffenbarger: New Work

WV Artist, Susan Poffenbarger to Exhibit 17 New Works at the Art Store

(Charleston, WV)  The Art Store will open New Works by Susan Poffenbarger Saturday, March 7, 2009.   Poffenbarger will discuss her new body of work at an ARTIST TALK at 5:30p.m. followed by a reception from 6 – 7:30p.m.

The solo exhibit includes 17 new landscape paintings in oil, acrylic and  pastel.

Primarily the realistic images are of West Virginia’s colorful landscapes from Canaan Valley and the Otter Creek Wilderness Area.  Two lush scenes are from Monet’s Water Gardens in France, and one work captures the play of light in a California vineyard.  However, with Poffenbarger’s landscape painting, she is not just relating a scene but her visual and emotional response to nature.  Poffenbager hopes her work will draw attention to the fragility of nature and the responsibility of all of us to maintain it as best we can.

Poffenbarger, an award winning West Virginia artist, has been shown in exhibitions at universities, galleries and museums throughout the region since 1976. She is currently exhibiting in the MASTERS OF THE JURIED EXHIBITION at the Cultural Center, State Capitol Complex in Charleston,WV through April 19, 2009.  Her work may be found in the permanent collections of the State of West Virginia, State Capitol, Charleston, WV; Huntington Museum of Art, Huntington, WV; The Clay Center, Charleston, WV; as well as numerous private and corporate collections. Poffenbarger is a graduate of West Virginia University. She has also studied at Marshall University, the Art Students League, New York, NY; and with noted contemporary American artists Nell Blaine, Wolf Kahn and Janet Fish.
