Go Figurative

The Art Store will display Go Figurative, a collection of works for lovers of figure drawing featuring the natural elements of the human body in a variety of media by our represented artists. These works are clearly derived from real object sources, and are by definition, representational.  Although working from live models is preferred, the length of time needed to complete a work has led most modern artists to use photographs as references at least part of the time.

For most of the 20th century, in Western Art, the discussion of "modern painting" largely ignored figurative works in favor of the significant avant-garde movements that embraced abstraction. Only a few movements to include figuration would make their way into "high art" discourse until roughly the 1980s, when figurative painting returned with a vengeance. Figurative painting has continued its resurgence, and its current forms feature a wide range of experimental shapes, compositions and subjects.

Artists included in our exhibition are: Chris Dutch, David Pushkin, June Kilgore, Grace Martin Taylor, Caroline Jennings and Diane White.

The exhibit will be on display through March 8th.

The Art Store is located in Downtown Charleston, at 233 Hale Street. The Gallery is open to the public Tuesday - Friday from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.  For further information, please call 304-345-1038 or visit us online at
