Shades of Summer: A NEW EXHIBIT at THE ART STORE

June 30, 2017

This summer we are featuring our Shades of Summer exhibition. It will open on July 8th and runs through August 31st. This show contains curated works by over 30 of our represented artists. The variety of works will range from landscapes, still-life, abstractions, and figurative works with media ranging from sculpture, painting, and photography. These works will be interchanged throughout the next two months.

For Shades of Summer ArtWalk on July 20th, 5:00pm to 8:00pm, we will be hosting live painting with Tom Acosta. His work is represented in our gallery and will be available for purchase. Acosta paints with purpose, depicting contemporary social realities and the everyday activities of ordinary people. His work is divided into two categories: reality and fantasy/allegorical. Aside from a painting in the permanent collection at the Butler Institute, Tom has exhibited at the Clay Center, Tamarack and the Gertrude Smith House.

The ArtWalk on August 17th will feature a Nellie Rose Trunk Show. It will run 10:00 am to  8:00 pm Thursday and conclude Friday, August 18th at 5:30 pm. Her work focuses on hand-painted clothing and hand-dyed shibori scarves. Nellie Rose collections are one-of-a-kind pieces, and handmade in small batches which continue the dedicated process of slow fiber. Nellie Rose Davis is a native West Virginian and daughter of textile artists specializing in shibori; a Japanese method of resist dye. She was a Fullbright Fellow from 2011 to 2012 during which she studied Japanese textiles and design at Osaka University of Arts in Osaka, Japan.
